Scientific name: Delichon urbica
Status: Widespread and common summer visitor.
Habitat: Nest almost exclusively on buildings, building a mud nest under eaves, so commonly found in towns and villages, but hunts for insect food over all kinds of open country.
Description: Best told from other swallows by it's prominent white rump on otherwise blue-black back. The white rump can be seen on birds at considerable height as they swoop around the sky. Distinctive hard but liquid chirrrp call.
